Freedom from corrective lenses during the day?
Contact lenses offer an excellent alternative to spectacles and can help with numerous activities that may be restricted by a pair of glasses, but what about activities restricted by contact lens wear? Hobbies such as swimming and watersports, occupations in dusty or dirty environments, or even seasonal changes including hayfever and dry eye can all prohibit contact lens wear.
Our Menicon Z Night lenses offer a solution to this, as the lenses are worn each night while sleeping and alter the shape of the front surface of the eye, leading to no visual correction being needed when they are removed in the morning.
These night lenses are also a perfect solution for children, who tend to be more prone to eye rubbing and less scrupulous ocular hygiene, and as they only wear them at home in bed, they are a lot less likely to be lost or broken. This means children can enjoy their childhood without the limitations of spectacle wear, and offers peace of mind for parents worrying about enough spare pairs of glasses!
Another huge advantage for children includes the benefits of myopia control. Numerous studies have found that the Ortho-K technology used in Menicon Z Night lenses can dramatically slow down, and in some cases even stop the progression of short-sightedness. This is hugely beneficial to children with low amounts of myopia, especially those with parents with high myopia, as it can reduce the chances of them progressing into needing more costly spectacle lenses, as well reducing the health risks associated with large amounts of short-sightedness such as retinal detachment.
At Scartho Eyecare our main priority is our patients. Due to the complexity of these lenses, it is essential that we monitor and track how the treatment is progressing, and therefore require more appointments.
1st Appointment; Valid eye test, corneal mapping ( Topography), check of the health of the eye.
2nd Appointment; collection of the lenses, fitting checked, hygiene and handling instructions given.
3rd Appointment; after the first night of wear, check eyes and lenses.
4th Appointment; 1 week progress check.
Checkups; 3 weeks, 2 months, 6 months.
This process is completely reversible and offers a convenient alternative to refractive surgery. The lenses are replaced every 6 months to help reduce infection and regression, and keep the eyes healthy, and our direct debit scheme is available to help spread the cost.
